The 8 Pieces of Brocade

Today’s online FREE class:
Moving Breathing Exercises (qigong) 8 Pieces of Brocade
Eight Pieces of Brocade or 8 Sections of Silk, is said to have been composed sometime during the Southern Sung Dynasty of the 12th century by the famous Chinese general, Yueh Fei. Yueh Fei was also known to have created Hsing I, an internal style of martial arts.
The purpose of these exercises was to engage the mind and body in order to balance and strengthen the body’s vital functions, as well as purge stagnant energy and toxins from the body. If practiced as simple physical exercises, one can loosen their muscles, improve posture, increase blood circulation, and relax the body as well as the mind.
These are just a few of the exercises I teach in my follow-along and private classes. Group classes have resumed and ongoing for Mondays & Fridays at 11:30am-12:30pm at the Winter Park Presbyterian Church at 400 S. Lakemont Avenue in Winter Park, FL. Private or semi-private classes are held in Longwood (Wekiva), FL.

Nothing is Ever Just Black & White

Yin and Yang – a very old concept that has been studied for thousands of years by many cultures.
Every thing exists in a state of constant change, balance and relevance. What works at one moment, does not a moment later. What appears one way, is seen completely different from another perspective. Without the mind, there is no body. Daytime transforms into nighttime. And so the cycles continue.
Deep wisdom and lessons can be learned from such a simple law of nature.

BaguaZhang (basic exercises)

“Workout” is to exercise to stay healthy with no specific goals.
“Training” is what some do, for a specific goal or performance. Sometimes training is to increase knowledge of a particular skill set.
“Practice is what individuals commit to do, in order to improve, increase or perfect their skills for a specific goal, performance or mastery.
BaguaZhang is an exercise method that can be a workout, training or practice depending upon the goals of the individual.
BaguaZhang exercises consist of:
– gentle stretching
– deep rhythmic breathing
– walking exercises for the lower body and blood circulation
– exercises that have been time-proven over hundreds of years
BaguaZhang translates to 8 Trigram Palm.
The Bagua is an 8-sided shape which can represent harmony and balance. Trigrams are relative to Chinese philosophy from the I-Ching, which has been studied by millions for hundreds of year to learn to exist within balance.

Warrior – Scholar – Sage

Warrior – Scholar – Sage
3 distinct mindsets and/or phases, when it comes to training and self-improvement. However, this concept can be also be applied towards various other walks of life from the soldier. the martial artist, the yoga practitioner, the car mechanic, the nurse, the carpenter, etc.
The Warrior – focuses mostly on the physical, the body, the movement, doing the work, getting the job done, defending, protecting
The Scholar – focuses on the history, the backstory, the mechanics, understanding how, when, where and why things work
The Sage – draws upon the life experiences from being a warrior and/or scholar to make wise decisions
